Thieves hijack lorry loaded with electrical goods

Thieves who stole a lorry loaded with electrical goods worth thousands of euro may have crossed the border into Northern Ireland, gardai warned.

The 40ft container filled with freezers, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers was taken from Dublin Port between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

A stolen cab used to transport the load was later found in the Drogheda area of Co Meath.

“They could have gone up north to try and sell the goods,” a Garda spokesman said today.

“We have seen this before. They took a cab to the port, hooked it on to the container and shifted it out.”

He said the goods, which were worth an estimated €38,000, had just been delivered off boats and were due to be distributed across the country.

Gardai appealed to anybody with information on the navy blue coloured container to contact them at Store Street Garda station in Dublin.

The haul included Zanussi, Electrolux and Tricity Bendix appliances.
