Police find body dumped in river
A body apparently seen on security cameras being dumped in a river overnight was found by police in Northern Ireland today.
Divers were called to Lisburn, Co Antrim, after security guards at the city’s civic centre spotted alarming activity on closed circuit cameras.
It is understood a car pulled up to barriers at the nearby River Lagan before the occupants got out and hoisted a body into the water.
A police spokesman confirmed the grisly discovery, but was unable to reveal if victim was a man or a woman.
Patricia Lewsley, the SDLP Assembly member for the area, said she was horrified to learn of the find.
She said: “This incident is going to cause much grief.
“Whoever this person is, they have friends and family who are going to be devastated by this news.
“I urge anyone who may have noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area in the early hours of this morning to please contact the police.”
