Gardai release man in Sligo murder probe

Gardai investigating the murder of a young Albanian woman in Sligo have released a man they were questioning without charge.

Gardai found the woman’s body at a house in Wolfe Tone Street in the town on Saturday morning.

The woman, who was in her early 20s and is believed to have been living in Sligo town for the past two years, working in various shops, pubs and nightclubs, was last seen alive on Friday night, visiting a nightclub with friends before leaving with a number of people.

A garda spokesman said officers were treating her death as murder.

A non-national who was arrested in Sligo yesterday morning was released at 10.30pm last night without being charged, he said.

Officers appealed for witnesses who might have seen anything suspicious between 7pm on Friday and 3am on Saturday.

The woman was named locally as Ms Lindika Kokaii, but officers said they would not release her name until all relatives had been informed.

An incident room was set up in Sligo garda station.
