Gardaí in Sligo are continuing to question a man in connection with the suspicious death of an Albanian woman in the town yesterday.

A post-mortem on the woman's body is being carried out at Sligo General hospital.

The body was discovered at a flat on Wolfe Tone Street in Sligo town yesterday morning.

The victim is believed to be a 23-year-old Albanian national who had lived in Sligo for some time and had been socialising with friends the night before.

Sources say the death was suspicious and some violence was involved. Gardaí arrested a man in connection with the death at Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim yesterday afternoon.

He is being held at Sligo garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
