PSNI say lives saved by arms find
A senior police officer says lives have been saved by the discovery of handguns and ammunition in Co Fermanagh.
Three guns were recovered along with ammunition and a timing device during the security operation at Donagh, close to the border.
The search began yesterday morning, continued until dusk and is resuming this morning.
Police have linked the find to the Continuity IRA, a dissident republican group particularly active in the Fermanagh area.
Chief Inspector John Maxwell from the Enniskillen District Command Unit, said he was pleased that the weapons, ammunition and timer power unit were recovered. He said that following last week's explosion at Enniskillen town hall, his men had been concentrating their efforts on the activities of dissident republicans and he had no doubt that "lives were saved" by the find.
Fermanagh Ulster Unionist Assembly man Sam Foster said the discovery showed there could be "no let up in security along the border".
