300 new jobs as Roscrea pharma plant re-opens

Around 300 jobs are to be created with the reopening of a Co Tipperary pharmaceutical plant which closed last December, it was today announced.

Recruitment is expected to begin immediately at the former Miza plant in Roscrea, which closed with the loss of 250 jobs.

The Israel/United States-based manufacturer R&D Lead will take over the facility with the help of a €20m investment from the Government.

Miza pharmaceuticals employed generations of workers in the Roscrea area since the 1940s.

Roscrea Chamber of Commerce welcomed the news, describing it as a tribute to the skills and reputation of the workers.

An official announcement was to be made in the town this afternoon by local TD and Defence Minister Michael Smith.
