Taylor says decommissioning not enough

Former Ulster Unionist MP John Taylor has claimed total IRA decommissioning would not be a drastic enough move to win unionist support for the re-establishment of the North's suspended political institutions.

Speaking in the British House of Lords, Mr Taylor, now known as Lord Kilclooney, said even if the IRA destroyed all its weapons, it could still import more in the future.

He said the only way to win unionist support for a return to the power-sharing Executive would be real sanctions for political parties linked to organisations which "break the peace".
