TEEU bosses urge members to reject deal

The executive committee of the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union has unanimously recommended that it members reject the social partnership deal drawn up during intensive talks in recent weeks.

The TEEU will now put the deal, named Sustaining Progress, to a postal ballot of its 37,000 members.

Other trade unions are due to meet in the coming weeks to decide whether to recommend rejection or acceptance of the proposals, which include a 7% phased pay rise over 18 months and a small rise in the minimum wage, as well as commitments on statutory redundancy and union recognition.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has also called a special delegate conference for next month to discuss its overall view of the partnership deal, but it is unlikely to issue a recommendation on whether to accept the package.
