Army arrive at Shannon airport
Army soldiers have arrived in Shannon this morning to begin their patrol of the airport. They are backing up the gardaí in a bid to prevent any more breaches of security.
The move comes after the largest commercial airline carrying American troops suspended it's operations through Shannon.
Speaking from Shannon airport, Commandant Kieran McDaid says the soldiers will stay in Shannon for as long as it is deemed necessary.
"The operation for the moment is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are committing substantial resources to it. We have also placed other resources on standby so we can sustain our resources to the gardaí for as long as is considered necessary."
