Forum on Europe to visit Longford

The National Forum on Europe begins a new nationwide tour this evening, when it will visit Longford town.

The public meeting in the Longford Arms hotel at 8pm will discuss the convention on the future of Europe. The Government is assessing public opinion on European issues.

A draft version of a European constitution is expected to be ready by this summer. In addition, it is thought that a Treaty of Dublin may be put to the public early next year.

Next month, the Forum on Europe will visit Wicklow town and the University of Limerick.

The meetings will give the Government time to study issues of concern to the public before a referendum on a European constitution takes place.
