Ahern hopeful of avoiding military action

The Taoiseach has said that he is hopeful no military action will take place against Iraq after the publication of the UN inspectors report this afternoon.

Mr Ahern also hopes that the pressure that has been applied by the United Nations will lead to the crisis in the Gulf being resolved satisfactorily.
