New Church of Ireland Bishop of the Cashel and Ossory diocese Peter Barrett was consecrated today at Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin today.

New Church of Ireland Bishop of the Cashel and Ossory diocese Peter Barrett was consecrated today at Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin today.

Dr Barrett, previously the Dean of Waterford, is married with three children.

His consecration was presided over by Archbishop of Dublin Dr John Neill, and attended by other bishops led by the Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Robin Eames.

Cardinal Desmond Connell, the highest-ranking member of the Catholic church in Ireland, was at the service as an ecumenical visitor, together with the president of the Methodist Conference, Winston Graham, and William McLaran, of the Presbyterian church.

There were also bishops from other countries including England, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Spain and Holland.
