The Irish Refugee Council has expressed disappointment at today's Supreme Court decision.

The seven-judge court dismissed an appeal by asylum seekers claiming to have the right to stay in Ireland by virtue of having Irish born children.

Thousands of refugees could now face deportation as a result of the judgement.

Council spokesman Peter O'Mahony says in light of the judgement the Government must reveal how it intends to implement the ruling as a matter of priority.

A spokesperson for the Justice Minister has said he will be making a statement on the matter after he has studied the judgement.

He added the Minister, who is in London today, was keen to study concerns expressed by the individual judges.
