Over a thousand people have marched on Shannon airport to protest at its use by American military.

Shannon is used to refuel US planes as they make their way to the Middle East for a possible strike against Iraq.

Bus loads of Irish anti-war campaigners from Dublin, Cork, Galway and Waterford has attended a rally at the airport.

Richard Boyd Barrett of the Irish anti war movement says world-wide public displays of outrage may be the only way of stopping a war now.
