Funeral takes place of latest UDA feud victim

The funeral is taking place at noon today of the latest victim of the UDA feud in the North.

Roy Green, 37, was shot dead outside a notorious loyalist bar in south Belfast last Thursday night.

The UDA statement claiming responsibility accused Mr Green of being a double agent and of surreptitiously passing on information about the group to renegade loyalist Johnny Adair. It is widely believed that he was killed by associates of Adair in direct retaliation for the murder of Jonathan Stewart, the nephew of a leading UDA man, a few days previously.

The dead man's family have asked for no paramilitary trappings at the private funeral and it is not known if Mr Adair will attend.

The police are now saying the overnight attack by two armed and masked men on another loyalist, Robert Ewart, in Carrickfergus, which left him fighting for his life in hospital, is also connected to the UDA feud.

One man has been arrested for questioning about the shooting.
