Livingstone calls for resignation of NEHB chief

The grandfather of the premature baby who died after her mother was turned away from Monaghan Hospital has called for the resignation of the chief executive of the North Eastern Health Board.

Jimmy Livingstone made the call as he arrived for a special meeting of the board convened to discuss Bronagh Livingstone's death on December 11.

The baby died in Cavan Hospital five hours after being born in an ambulance which was taking her mother Denise from Monaghan.

The maternity unit at Monaghan Hospital was closed down almost two years ago, but an independent report into the tragedy said Ms Livingstone should have been treated in Monaghan because the baby's birth was imminent.
