An Post faces opposition to letter box plan
An Post is facing a battle over its plans to abandon door to door deliveries in favour of secure letter boxes.
The public has until the end of the month to lodge any objections with the Commission for Communications Regulation, which has the final say on the plan.
The Minister for Community and Rural Affairs Eamonn O'Cuiv says he is opposed to the move.
Dermot Jewell of the Consumer Association of Ireland says the plan will only work if door to door deliveries continue for those who really need it.
"What is very important is that it doesn't in any way or form to exclude the old, the infirm or the elderly who would have problems with this," he said.
"They must be protected and they must guarantee delivery on a very regular basis."
