A man was due in court today accused of murdering a man near a Belfast army base.

David Cupples, 25, died on Christmas Day after he was attacked and beaten on his way to work at Girdwood base in the north of the city three days earlier.

The civilian worker from east Belfast suffered serious head injuries during the assault which happened in the mainly loyalist Clifton Park Avenue area.

A 20-year-old man was due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court.

Two other men have been accused of trying to assist offenders in connection with the attack.

They have denied attempting to obtain and dispose of video evidence with intent to prevent the arrest of the killers.

They were remanded in custody after appearing in court on New Year’s Eve.
