Martin criticised over delay in Hep C compensation
The family of a Co Cork woman who was infected with Hepatitis C during a life-saving operation has criticised Health Minister Micheal Martin for failing to authorise a compensation package.
Sylvia O'Leary's relatives accused Mr Martin of delaying the deal because Ms O'Leary is at risk of imminent death.
The 32-year-old Ballincollig woman is currently on a life-support machine after suffering severe liver and kidney failure.
Her family's solicitor said last night that his clients expected the Government to finalise the compensation package today, but a spokesperson for the Department of Health said the deal must first be cleared through the Department of Finance.
The O'Leary family fear that the compensation claim will be lost if Ms O'Leary dies.
