Church's abuse inquiry decides to end investigations
The independent inquiry established by the Catholic Church to investigate its handling of child sex abuse allegations has decided to end its investigations.
Judge Gillian Hussey, the chairperson of the inquiry, said the decision was taken after Justice Minister Michael McDowell announced his intention to establish a more detailed and focused investigation.
Judge Hussey said the proposed new inquiry would cover the same ground as her commission had intended to cover.
She said: "The most important issue is not who carries out the investigation, but rather that it will ensure full accountability and assist the closure process for all those who have so tragically suffered."
