SIPTU seeks proper redundancy for Limerick workers

SIPTU has said the Wilo Pumps company must provide adequate redundancy packages for the 85 workers it laid off in Limerick earlier today.

The Raheen-based firm announced plans to slash its workforce from 98 to just 13, with many of the laid-off staff having worked at the plant for more than 15 years.

SIPTU's Karen O'Loughlin said: "The average payment now, under the circumstances, will not suffice because our members are bitterly disappointed.

"They have made trojan efforts over the last 18 months to ensure the viability of the plant and had been assured by local management that we had a future."
