Gardai in Dublin have appealed for information following a series of security van raids in the city yesterday.

The first hold up happened around 3pm when raiders dressed as road workers held up a van on Conquer Hill Rd in Clontarf. The thieves drove away, releasing the driver and passenger a short time later. The van was later found abandoned near Sir John Rogerson's Quay, containing it's cargo of eight tonnes of coins and a firearm.

Later in the evening a second raid happened in Ringsend when a group of armed raiders held up a van as it was making a cash box collection from a Credit Union. A security device on the cash box caused it to explode but the raiders made off in the direction of the East-Link bridge in a small dark car.

Gardai are so far not linking the raids.
