Truckers will go out of business over VRT increase

Truckers reacting to yesterday's surprise motor tax increase have said they are being economically victimised.

The Midland Hauliers Association is worried how the recent budget increase on diesel, combined with the VRT increase, will affect their members.

Spokesperson for the Association, Mick Finn, said truckers simply won't cope with the blow.

"There all going to be crippled, they're going to go out of business. There are people hanging on in this business by the skin of their teeth that have been in haulage all their lives. There's no such thing as a wealthy small haulier. Most of us are family men and we just want to do a days work and get a decent day's pay for it."
