Study shows children of broken homes suffer sadness
A new study looking at children of separated parents has revealed that many of the young people are worried that they will stand out from, and be different to other children.
Sixty children aged between 8 and 17 took part in the study which was launched this morning by Social and Family Affairs Minister, Mary Coughlan.
It found that many of the children were sad not to be living with both parents, and although they wanted both parents to be a part of their lives, they were worried about distressing them by expressing their feelings.
Instead the children tended to confide in other family members or children in a similar situation.
Minister Coughlan said the new Family Support Agency being launched next year will look at the supports needed for such children and their parents.
