Cost of postage stamps set to rise

The European Commission has begun preparations to increase the price of postage stamps.

The Internal Market Commissioner, Frits Bolkstein, is preparing a draft directive that would put VAT of up to 25% on stamps by 2003. If implemented it would put an extra ten cent on to the cost of a 41 cent stamp.
