Ballymun lift dispute escalates

The company at the centre of the Ballymun lifts dispute has issued legal proceedings against the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union today in an effort to apply extra pressure in the three-week long lift strike.

Pickerings Lifts is now warning workers it will break the lifts strike.

Members of the Technical Engineering and Electrical union have also been told the company intends to bring in foreign workers protected by professional bodyguards to break their strike.

TEEU members in the lift industry are meeting in the union's hall at 6 Gardiner Row ,Dublin, at 4.30pm tomorrow, to consider their response.

Regional secretary Mr Arthur Hall has rejected claims by the company that the union is acting illegally and said it "will vigorously defend any court action".
