GOAL fear Budget could hit overseas aid

There are fears that the country's overseas aid will be hit in today's Budget.

John O'Shea of GOAL says the reality is that it means people in developing countries would die as a result.

"I am concerned because it sends out a terrible message to the poor of the Third World because we have already promised we will increase our aid.

"It is important that whatever aid is withdrawn it is not going to affect those on the bottom of the socio-economic ladder and it is only the missionaries and the Irish non-Governmental agencies that reach those in greatest need.

"They must be given the money at whatever cost to continue their great work."
