Greens' Sargent seeks voting changes

The Green party are calling for changes in the voting process so young people come out and register their vote more often.

Party leader Trevor Sergent was speaking at a conference this weekend in Galway.

He says that poling booths should be introduced in universities for elections and that electronic registers should be set up during voting times.

Deputy Sergent said that recently during elections, young voter apathy had been increasing, and there was now a need to change that.

He also says a system could be introduced whereby voting could take place over two-day periods or on weekends.
