Child benefit increases and the removal of those on the minimum wage from the tax net are among the pre-budget proposals being put forward by the National Women's Council of Ireland.

The council is calling on the Finance Minister to target women on social welfare with caring responsibilities and those in low paid jobs.

Chairwoman, Grainne Healy, is also calling for all dependent children under the age of 18 years to be given medical card coverage.
