Inaction condemns Dublin Residents more flooding
Dublin West Fine Gael Senator Shiela Terry has condemned the government for refusing the take action to prevent further flooding for at least a year despite the fact that €300m will be spent on flood relief schemes outside Dublin in places such as Kilkenny and Carrick-on-Suir.
Terry said: "Last week, hundreds of homes in Littlepace, Castelcurragh and Herbert Rd in Dublin 15 were flooded along with homes across the northside of the city.
"Despite this, Government minister Tom Parlon has refused to take any action to prevent further flooding until the multi-million euro Greater Dublin Strategic Drainage Study (GDSDS) is completed in May 2003", she said.
She added: "The Government’s abject failure to take any action to save homes and businesses in north and west Dublin is a disgrace. The Tolka River burst its banks in November 2000 and again November 2002. Government inaction may mean that residents could face more of the same in the years to come."
