12,000 community jobs will be cut, say Fine Gael

The Government is set to start a new round of cuts that will affect vulnerable people in communities according to Fine Gael.

More than 12,000 community jobs will be shed, says Senator Brian Hayes.

He plans to bring to the issue up for debate in the Seanad this week.

The Fine Gael official maintains it's time Fianna Fail lies wee exposed.

He insists Tanaiste Mary Harney and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern have gone back on promises made in their election campaign and if community jobs are cut, dole queues will get bigger.

Mr Hayes wants the cuts abandoned: "These are people who would find it difficult to get jobs in the ordinary economy. These are people who should be getting training opportunities.

"They'll be heaped on the dole queues again and unemployment will increase radically."
