Bord Pleanala rejects ESB pylon appeal
An Bord Pleanala has rejected an appeal against local authority decisions to grant planning permission for a series of electricity pylons in Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo.
Local groups have opposed the 220-kilowatt project since it was first suggested two-and-a-half years ago, saying it will lead to the construction of more than 200 pylons.
The Against Mast Pylons pressure group said the project was originally sold on the basis that it would bring power into Sligo, but it has since been proved that the scheme will actually take power out of the area
