IFI workers to protest in Dublin
Irish Fertiliser Industries workers from Arklow, Cork and Belfast will demonstrate in Dublin later today in protest at their treatment following the Government's decision to put the company into liquidation.
More than 600 workers will lose their jobs when the IFI plants close.
SIPTU said Tanaiste Mary Harney agreed to fund a redundancy package for the workers in a meeting with trade unionists two weeks ago and to provide the workers with advice on taxation, pension rights and social welfare entitlements.
However, it said yesterday that none of those pledges was yet honoured.
