Students in the country's largest third level institute have been sent home due to lack of staff.

First year students in the college of Art and Design in Dublin have been told not to attend classes until further notice because the college does not have the money to hire enough tutors.

Lecturers at the college are to attend a meeting to discuss the crisis later tonight.

President of the D.I.T. Students Union, Hugh Scully says it is extremely upsetting for the students involved.
