Survey says people feel less safe on Irish streets
A new survey has shown increased confidence in the Gardaí but people still feel less safe on the streets.
The survey showed that 84% of crimes were reported to the Gardaí and the public were 90% happy with the amount of time that officers spent on cases.
However, it is the personal safety section which will have the Minister for Justice Michael McDowell worrying.
More than half of those surveyed said that they feel less safe walking after dark on the streets than they did six years ago.
In addition, there was a huge difference in feelings of safety between rural and urban areas.
