Greens: Govt is abusing neutrality

The Green Party has said that the Government is blatantly abusing Ireland’s neutrality.

The Greens say continued use of Shannon Airport by the US military is unconstitutional.

They have also accused the Government of colluding with the US and British governments to attack Iraq.

Green TD, John Gormley says the Minister for Foreign Affairs is breaking the law by turning a blind eye to our position on neutrality.

“It's a crucial issue and the Ministers can no longer hide on it. They can't claim that we are neutral," he said.

"They can't wave the Seville declaration in relation to the Nice Treaty and say yes we are neutral when we have a situation where we are actually helping a war effort, a war that is actually quite illegal in international law."
