North Eastern Health Board to cut 83 jobs

The North Eastern Health Board has confirmed plans to cut 83 jobs this year in an effort to control budget over-runs.

The board is currently almost €11m, or 4%, over budget and has blamed the situation on population growth in the north-east over the last eight years.

Its chief executive, Paul Robinson, confirmed today that the NEHB will leave 83 mostly administrative positions unfilled this year.

He added that the savings needed to bring the budget back in line can be made without affecting existing services.
