ICTU calls for 'yes' vote

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is calling for a 'yes' vote in the Nice referendum.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is calling for a 'yes' vote in the Nice referendum.

It launched its campaign in Dublin this afternoon, based on trade union solidarity across Europe.

Trade unionists from Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic are expected to attend the launch, and to explain why workers in their countries want Ireland to ratify the Treaty.

Meanwhile, the ICTU is to meet in Dublin's Abbey theatre tomorrow for discussions on a successor to the Partnership for Prosperity and Fairness.

Last week, more than 600 SIPTU delegates voted in favour of re-opening discussions with the Government and employers' groups.

Tomorrow's meeting will see all Irish trade unions come together to vote on whether to open discussions on a new pay agreement as a unit.
