Gardai probe sexual assault claim
Gardai are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Co Cavan.
The alarm was raised when the girl approached a garda patrol car in the Crosskeys area of Ballyjamesduff shortly after midnight and told them of the attack.
The girl was admitted to Cavan General Hospital before being transferred to the sexual assault unit of the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin, a police spokesman said.
A motor car has been impounded and some evidence recovered as part of the police investigation, he added.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman is reported to have been subjected to a serious assault in Lucan in Co Dublin overnight.
She was set upon near the Spa Hotel in the town at around 3am this morning and dragged into bushes, where she was beaten about the head.
The woman was admitted to hospital with head and facial injuries.
