Burton to contest Labour deputy-leadership race

Dublin west TD Joan Burton has declared herself as a candidate in the upcoming Labour Party deputy-leadership election.

Ms Burton, who has been vice-chair of the party’s general council for five years, said she would take a three-pronged approach to improving Labour’s standing following the disappointment of the recent General Election.
