Teenage prisoner found dead in cell
A young female prisoner was today found dead in her cell at Maghaberry Jail.
Nineteen-year-old Annie Kelly, believed to be from the Strabane area of Derry was found hanged in her cell at Mourne House around 2.30pm.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Prison Service said her family, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and the coroner had been informed of the death.
Ms Kelly had been in and out of prison frequently in recent years and was under regular observation from prison service staff after making numerous attempts to harm herself.
The PSNI has been brought in to carry out an inquiry on behalf of the coroner's office, while the prison service will carry out its own internal investigation.
