New garden to honour bombings victims
A new memorial garden will be officially opened in Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin today in memory of those that died from bombings in the Republic during the 1970’s.
The garden, which will be blessed at 1:30pm, is being funded by Dublin City Council and designed by the cemetery road.
The garden is dedicated to those that died in the Dublin Monaghan bombings on May 17 1974 when a total of 33 persons lost their lives.
It was the biggest loss of lives in one day during the history of the troubles. Yet despite hard-fought attempts to get answers, the families of those that dies are still seeking answers.
A Yorkshire TV programme a few years ago implied that the UVF carried out the 1974 bombings with the assistance of British military intelligence.
The Barron Commission is also investigating bombings in Dublin in December 1972 and January 1973.
