Archbishop Eames calls for end to Belfast violence

Church of Ireland Primate Archbishop Robin Eames has called on Northern paramilitaries to suspend their violence in an effort to end sectarian tensions in Belfast.

Dr Eames made his appeal after Alan McQuillan, the assistant chief constable for the city, accused the IRA and the UVF of fuelling street clashes between nationalists and loyalists.

The Archbishop said paramilitaries are manipulating civilians in the most volatile areas, but added that he believes a willingness to find a solution is present on both sides.
