Real IRA: 'We murdered building worker'
A republican group has tonight claimed it murdered a construction worker in a bomb attack on a Derry Territorial Army base.
David Caldwell, 51, was killed when he picked up a lunch box packed with explosives at Caw Camp on August 1.
No organisation admitted responsibility for the attack at the time.
But in a phonecall to the Derry Journal newspaper tonight, accompanied by a recognised codeword, the Real IRA claimed it planted the booby-trapped device.
The republican paramilitaries - who murdered 29 people including a woman pregnant with twins in the 1998 Omagh outrage - said its Derry Brigade was responsible for the “execution” of Mr Caldwell.
Eight people have been questioned by detectives investigating the murder.
All were released without charge.
