Green Party seeks clarification on Stadium issue
The Green Party has called on the Government to clarify if the proposed National Stadium will be built in Ringsend in Dublin.
Reports have suggested that the coalition is planning to switch the project from Abbotstown to a more central location and the former Irish Glass Bottle plant in Ringsend has been suggested as a possible site.
The Green Party is opposed to any such move and spokesman John Gormley today accused Justice Minister and Dublin south-east TD Michael McDowell of making a cynical u-turn.
"He was the person, you may remember, during the general election, who was implacably opposed to the ‘Bertie Bowl’ and said it was an immoral use of taxpayers’ money," Mr Gormley said.
"I happen to agree with that statement, however, I knew at the time that Mr McDowell would renege on that particular promise when it came to dishing out the mercs and the perks."
