Councillor arrested following Meath bridge protest

A Councillor has been arrested following a protest over the demolition of a railway bridge in Trim, Co Meath.

The protest followed claims that no notice had been given about the demolition of the structure on the Dunderry Road.

A Meath Co Council spokesman confirmed the demolition was part of the 1995 Trim Development plan and pointed out that the bridge was not a protected structure.

He also said the project was not referred to An Taisce or Duchas, as both bodies had been involved in the development plan process.
