Gardai in Co Meath have released the two men arrested in connection with the theft of €4m worth of cigarettes yesterday.

The Marlboro Lights cigarettes were inside two 40ft containers which were taken from Dublin Port between 7am and 8am yesterday.

One of the containers was subsequently stopped on the main Ashbourne to Duleek road and the two Dubliners in their 40s were arrested.

However, they were released without charge today and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

Half of the stolen cigarettes were recovered following yesterday’s arrests, but the second half of the consignment has not been found.
