Prominent doctor lashes Waterford hospital management

Dr Sean McCarthy, a member of the South Eastern Health Board, has claimed management at Waterford Regional Hospital is solely responsible for the ongoing junior doctors’ dispute in the facility.

Dr Sean McCarthy, a member of the South Eastern Health Board, has claimed management at Waterford Regional Hospital is solely responsible for the ongoing junior doctors’ dispute in the facility.

Mr McCarthy, a former government minister who also sits on Tipperary County Council, has called an emergency meeting of the health board for Thursday next to discuss the matter.

He said today that hospital management in Waterford has failed to honour agreements on rosters.

"They are actually the people who have caused this problem," he said. "They agreed that these doctors should work normal rosters. They have now been excluded from working certain hours during the day and that’ll stop their training to become specialists."
