Gardai have released the names of four people who died in overnight accidents on Ireland’s roads.

24-year-old David Phelan and his 26-year-old brother, John, both from Fethard, Co Tipperary, died when their motorcycle collided with a car outside the town last night.

52-year-old Brendan Hopkins, from Castlebar, Co Mayo, died in another accident near Swinford at around 2.30am.

25-year-old Thomas Clifford, from Ballymacave, died in a two-car collision in Rathkeale, Co Limerick, later in the morning.

Six people have died in road accidents so far this August Bank Holiday weekend.

33-year-old Wendy Lynch, from Downpatrick, Co Down, was the first victim.

27-year-old Sligo man Mark Rooney also died after being struck by a vehicle in the centre of the town early yesterday morning.
