Paisley accuses Reid of lying about violence

DUP leader Ian Paisley has accused Northern Secretary John Reid of attempting to perpetuate a myth that violence in the North has decreased since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.

DUP leader Ian Paisley has accused Northern Secretary John Reid of attempting to perpetuate a myth that violence in the North has decreased since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.

Earlier today, Dr Reid reiterated his condemnation of recent violence, but stressed that the level of violence is still much lower than it was a decade ago.

“He should tell that to the families of the two most recent murder victims,” Dr Paisley said.

“He continues to state that the situation is much better, though he has to go back 10 years to make his comparison.

"Violence today is very, very real and it is not just in the interface areas, as we have seen with the callous murder in Derry yesterday.”
